Clorox customer brings class action over contaminated household cleaners

Clorox recalled over 6 million bottles of Mistolin and Lestoil cleaners on Sept. 3 after finding contamination with Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a bacterium linked to pneumonia, rashes, and infections in vulnerable people. Customer Leslie Santana filed a class action alleging Clorox knew the risk well, having paid a $14.15 million penalty in 2022 after a similar contamination forced a 37-million-bottle Pine-Sol recall for the same bacterium.

Santana's complaint says the newly recalled products were made between April 2025 and June 2026 and sold in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands without warning, remaining on shelves for months after production stopped. She's seeking disclosure requirements, a testing overhaul, Spanish-language recall notices, restitution, and punitive damages; Clorox has not responded to requests for comment.

Paying a fine and then running the same play again isn't bad luck, it's a business plan with a lawyer's phone number attached. If the label doesn't tell you what's really in the bottle, the courtroom eventually will.
