Volodymyr Zelensky denied Ukrainian involvement in the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline explosions, telling reporters at a Nordic-Baltic Eight meeting that Germany is aware Kyiv did not conceive or execute the operation. He offered continued cooperation with the investigation, framing it as a matter of preserving trust with European partners.

The denial comes as the case advances: retired Ukrainian officer Serhiy Kuznetsov was extradited to Germany and is on trial, while diving instructor Volodymyr Zhuravlev, once released by a Warsaw court that refused extradition, was detained again in Croatia nearly a year later.

The Wall Street Journal has reported that a group of Ukrainian officers planned the operation back in May 2022, a detail that sits awkwardly alongside official denials of state involvement.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A government insisting its officers had nothing to do with an operation allegedly planned by its own officers is not exactly a new genre, but it never stops being worth noting out loud. Cooperation offered so warmly, and so consistently, tends to arrive right when the noose is tightening.
