Luxembourg Airport halted operations after unauthorized drones were detected

Luxembourg's only international airport suspended operations on September 18 after unauthorized drones were spotted near and above the field, then resumed flights the next day while warning of lingering delays. The airport cited protection of passengers, crew and aircraft, and said it is coordinating with air traffic control and other partners, but offered nothing on where the drones came from or who sent them.

This joins a run of similar incidents: Vilnius airspace closed September 13 over a suspected violation, Rzeszów and Lublin in Poland halted operations September 16, and Reagan National outside Washington reported its own suspension the same day. None of the statements from any of these airports have identified an origin for the drones involved.

Every one of these airports says the same thing: something flew where it shouldn't have, and we have no idea whose it was. That's a lot of expensive airspace to keep losing track of in the same two-week stretch. A neighbor who keeps finding strange trucks in his driveway eventually stops calling it a mystery and starts calling it a pattern.
