President Trump told reporters he had 'absolutely' approved livestreaming the planned December execution of Nidal Hasan, the former Army major convicted of killing 13 people at Fort Hood in 2009, even as he said minutes earlier that he still needed to 'make a determination' on the matter. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth had announced the execution by firing squad would be public.

The plan drew bipartisan criticism, with Republican Sen. Thom Tillis comparing it to practices of 'oppressive dictatorships' and Democratic Sen. Patty Murray invoking the long-abandoned era of public hangings. Vice President JD Vance, asked if he would watch, said he would not.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A man who has approved something and also hasn't decided on it, inside of one afternoon, shouldn't be trusted to set the thermostat, never mind book a camera crew for a firing squad. When Thom Tillis and Patty Murray land on the same side of a question, that's usually a sign the question was a bad idea to begin with. Even JD Vance said he won't be watching.
