Dem-Aligned Organization Accepts Support From Palantir — And Refuses To Answer Questions About It

Palantir Technologies was listed as a ‘top supporter’ of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation's annual legislative conference, with its logo appearing on signage and a table placard at the marquee Phoenix Awards gala honoring Viola Davis, Andrew Young and Douglas Wilder. The sponsorship came less than a week after the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute publicly returned a Palantir donation over the firm's ICE contracts.

ICE holds roughly $145 million in contracts with Palantir, according to the ACLU, which has used the company's technology to track undocumented immigrants for deportation. Several Democratic lawmakers, including Sen. Ruben Gallego, have returned or rejected Palantir money, and CHCI chair Rep. Darren Soto ordered his group's donation returned as soon as he learned of it.

It remains unclear how much Palantir donated to CBCF or what benefits, such as panel access or attendee data, came with the sponsorship. In a statement, Palantir said its support was meant to fund internships, fellowships, and technology capacity-building for the foundation.

Putting a data firm's logo under a portrait of a woman whose whole slogan was about not being bought is the kind of irony that writes itself, so this desk will just point at it. One caucus's sister organization handed the money back inside a week, and the other one won't say what it got or how much. Silence is an answer, it is just not the one anybody wants to print on a banner.
