UNHCR and the World Food Programme warn that more than 650,000 refugees and asylum seekers in South Sudan risk losing access to food, nutrition and other assistance because of severe funding shortfalls. Without urgent new funding, the last food and nutrition support for the most vulnerable 240,000 refugees will run out in September.

Those 240,000 are the final group still receiving aid out of the original 650,000 covered by the program. The agencies warn that cutting the assistance would raise the risk of malnutrition and exploitation, particularly for women and children, and could push more people to cross borders in search of food.
