At least 188 people have died in the quake according to official figures, with 95 dead in Cali and 79 in Pereira; hundreds remain missing. In Pereira alone, 92 buildings collapsed, 15 people are known trapped and 37 reported missing, while in Cali more than 200 people remained trapped as of Tuesday afternoon.
The quake struck at 07:34 local time on Monday with its epicenter near San José del Palmar in Chocó province, with shaking reported to have lasted up to two minutes near the epicenter. Cali's mayor has declared a night-time curfew and deployed soldiers to the worst-hit areas to secure ongoing rescue operations.
