American Bridge 21st Century, now legally branded AB PAC, is the liberal hybrid super PAC founded in 2010 by former conservative operative David Brock. It plans to spend $50 million in the 2026 cycle across roughly 20 House and Senate races, funded so far by nearly $34.8 million raised through June, with major donors including a Soros-backed super PAC and an Indiana real estate heiress.

The group has already spent over $1 million on ads opposing Republican primary winners in Iowa and contributed more than $7 million to a Texas-focused Democratic PAC. In 2024 it spent almost $98 million total, including $58.6 million attacking Donald Trump over abortion, his criminal conviction, and Jan. 6.

There is nothing wrong with a partisan PAC doing partisan PAC things loudly and on the record — that is what disclosure laws are for. The only mild comedy here is watching a group whose entire business model is opposition research get profiled with the studied neutrality usually reserved for the Federal Reserve.
