Chernihiv declared a day of mourning after Russian forces attacked the city on the morning of Aug. 26, setting fire to a house with three people inside. Rescuers found a 4-year-old girl and a 49-year-old woman dead; a 14-year-old girl was hospitalized.
Overnight drone strikes on the city separately injured four people, including two children aged 10 and 12. The city canceled entertainment events and banned music in public spaces as part of the mourning period.
