Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed officials to manage state water resources according to the Water Movement Plan, prioritizing drinking water amid deficient rainfall, during a secretariat review of the water resources department. He reviewed progress on the Polavaram and Veligonda projects, noting Polavaram's civil works are 89.9% complete despite a Godavari flood discharge of 14 lakh cusecs.

Naidu set a March deadline for the left canal up to Visakhapatnam and called for canal capacity to handle 17,500 cusecs, plus naming proposals for the canals and tourism development around the dam site. He also addressed public concern over data centres' water use, stating they would require only 3.5 tmc ft and accusing unnamed people of spreading misinformation, asking officials to publicize 'the facts.'

He further asked officials to discourage farmers from six water-intensive crops this season and to continue groundwater-raising works, while proposing an inland waterway link between Visakhapatnam and Amaravati.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
When a government's answer to public concern is 'that's misinformation, here are our own unverified figures,' the appropriate response is more scrutiny, not less. Officials asserting their own accuracy while managing megaprojects, canal-naming rights and drought messaging all in one meeting is a lot of multitasking to take on faith.
