Pauline Hanson reaffirmed her 1996 comments criticizing Sydney's Mardi Gras, saying she still doesn't like the gay pride parade, has never attended one, and doesn't plan to, though she now acknowledges its economic benefit and calls same-sex marriage's legalization "acceptable."

Her remarks followed a controversy over former One Nation WA Senate candidate Parminder Singh's anti-gay comments in a leaked video, which prompted a One Nation MP to distance the party by calling it "one of the gayest parties in Australia." Hanson disavowed Singh's views as his own.

Hanson also defended being unable to name the leaders of Indonesia or Japan when pressed on her foreign policy credentials, saying she'll learn such details when necessary, and restated One Nation's push to cut net migration to 130,000 annually, targeting international students while protecting backpacker visas that farmers rely on.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A prospective prime minister who doesn't need to know who runs Indonesia until the job requires it is setting a refreshingly low bar for the job. Thirty years of consistency on disliking a parade she's never seen is, if nothing else, an impressively stable position.
