Ukrainian journalist Denys Trubetskyi told Meduza that Kyiv has faced near-daily Russian drone and missile attacks since late August, with dozens of civilians killed and hundreds injured in the capital over recent months, as residents brace for a winter that could bring power and heating shortages.
Trubetskyi linked the intensified strikes to two factors: a U.S. weapons shortfall earlier in the year that reduced Patriot interceptor supplies, and Russia's increased monthly production of ballistic and jet-powered Geran drones, which can travel up to 650 kilometers per hour and are difficult to shoot down affordably at scale.
He said ballistic missile strikes occurred roughly every third night from May through summer, often arriving before or just after air raid alerts, leaving residents little time to reach shelter and describing the uncertainty as a serious strain on daily life and mental health.
