Federal, state and local officials joined thousands of family members in lower Manhattan to mark 25 years since the September 11 attacks, which killed nearly 3,000 people across dozens of states, with related attacks in Washington and Shanksville killing 165 more.

The ceremony featured the annual reading of victims' names, seven moments of silence, and remarks from a White House statement noting that an entire generation now has no living memory of the attacks. Attendees included Vice President Vance, three former presidents, and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, while President Trump attended a separate ceremony at the Pentagon.

Survivors and family members, including a former recovery volunteer and relatives of first responders who later died of related illnesses, described both the ritual of remembrance and frustration that promises made to responders remain unmet.
