Presidential website publishes petition for open Zelenskyy news conference

A petition calling on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to hold an open news conference with independent media has been published on Ukraine's presidential website, after at least five earlier attempts were blocked. The petition, reported by journalist Danylo Mokryk, cites a month of protests in Ukraine that ended without officials engaging in open dialogue with the public.

The petition names outlets including Ukrainska Pravda, the Kyiv Independent, BBC Ukraine and Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, and asks that journalists be allowed to ask questions without pre-clearing them. It needs 25,000 signatures by November 27 and has so far collected about 4,500.

Zelenskyy last held a major press conference with a broad group of journalists in early 2025; since then his media appearances have largely occurred during foreign trips where questioning is limited. The Presidential Office had previously rejected a similar petition, saying it did not meet 'established requirements,' and in 2025 introduced pre-submitted audio Q&As that not all outlets can access.
