Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy temporarily removed all roughly 25 of the county's Flock automatic license plate readers after repeated vandalism, with no timeline set for their return. He framed the removal as protecting the county's investment while calling the vandalism itself a felony.

A sheriff insisting the cameras are harmless while quietly admitting the county can't keep them standing is its own kind of data point. If the privacy objections were as baseless as claimed, nobody would be climbing poles at night to make the point for them.
