Data analyst Eric Pachman estimates that 2.1 million foreign-born, working-age men have left the United States since the start of Trump's second term, with 88% of them employed at the time they left. The losses this year and last dwarf anything in the comparison data, including the pandemic peak of 336,000 in 2020.

Pachman found no comparable drop among foreign-born women, suggesting deportations are hitting men disproportionately and splitting up families in the process. He also found that native-born labor force participation has continued declining rather than rising to fill the vacated jobs, undercutting the administration's argument that immigrants were displacing native workers.

The jobs most affected, including farming, construction, and healthcare support, are fields where foreign-born workers made up a quarter to nearly half the workforce. Pachman warns that unfilled vacancies in those sectors could add to inflation rather than open opportunities for native-born workers.
