Presidential office deputy head Pavlo Palisa said Ukraine has no current plans to lower the upper mobilization age from 60, while separately voicing support for fixed terms of service and a professional contract-based military. His comments came after Rada National Security Committee secretary Roman Kostenko said 'radical' changes to mobilization were being prepared, including possibly dropping the ceiling to 50-55 via administrative decision rather than legislation.

Lawmaker Fedir Venislavskyi said there are no legislative initiatives on the age limit, while the Defense Ministry confirmed work is underway on 'possible changes' to conscription. Currently, Ukrainians aged 25 to 60 are liable for mobilization.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Nothing says 'no plans' quite like three separate officials describing the plan in progressively more specific terms. The General Staff apparently gets to change the rules by memo, which is a tidy way to avoid an actual debate about who fights this war and for how long.
