U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CBS News that President Trump continues weighing whether to impose tariffs on China and India for buying Russian energy, with a decision required by around Oct. 18 to Oct. 30 under the recently signed Lindsey Graham Act. Wright said Trump 'leaves every decision till the end' and will 'evaluate the trade-offs,' declining to predict the outcome.
The law, signed Sept. 18, authorizes tariffs up to 100% on countries buying Russian energy and expands sanctions on Russia's military and financial sectors. Wright would not say whether tariffs on China specifically are likely, saying only that the administration is 'trying to have the best relations we can.'

A law named for hellfire and the man in charge of enforcing it talks like he's picking a paint color. Deadlines only mean something if somebody intends to hit them, and 'he leaves every decision till the end' is a nice way of saying nobody should hold their breath. Sanctions you might impose are just a press release with extra steps.
