Despite warnings from U.S. envoys that Washington could cut off Ukraine's intelligence sharing and weapons access over strikes on Russian refineries, Politico reports no current sign the administration is acting on those threats. An unnamed NATO official called the PURL weapons program a good deal for the U.S. and noted that restricting sales would hurt American manufacturers too.
The threats followed Trump's own deal with Putin to let Russian diesel flow to global markets, a move he says is meant to lower prices. Multiple outlets, including Axios, the Financial Times and CNN, have reported the administration pressuring Ukraine to halt refinery strikes, while Zelensky has said Kyiv would only stop if Russia also halts strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

You can make all the threats you like in a conference room in Miami, but if nobody actually pulls the plug, it starts to sound like a man waving a stick he has no intention of using. Meanwhile the administration signed an actual deal to buy diesel from the other side of the war it's supposed to be helping end. That's the kind of contradiction that would get a neighbor laughed off his own porch.
