Experts say this also degrades sleep quality by suppressing REM and deep sleep, meaning older drinkers may sleep a full night yet wake exhausted.
Doctors added that medications, sleep apnea and other conditions common with age can compound the fatigue, and separately noted rising anxiety as another documented effect of drinking later in life.
