A drone strike overnight sparked a large fire at the Slavneft-YANOS refinery in Yaroslavl, Russia, according to independent outlet Astra, which geolocated video of the blazes. Local Governor Mikhail Yevrayev claimed air defenses intercepted 65 drones overnight while confirming the refinery was damaged and an active fire was burning.

The plant is among Russia's five largest refineries, processing about 15 million metric tons of crude annually, and is majority-owned by state energy giants Rosneft and Gazprom. According to Astra's tracking, this is at least the ninth fire at the facility in 2026 alone, with prior strikes recorded in March, April, May twice, July twice, and August twice.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Nine fires in one year at the same refinery is not bad luck, it is a pattern with a return address. Officials touting interception numbers while the plant burns behind them is the kind of arithmetic that convinces nobody standing near the smoke. At some point the building itself starts to look like the unluckiest structure in the country.
