Presidential advisor Serhii Beskrestnov told Radio NV that Ukrainian engineers are actively building three to five variants of high-speed interceptor drones meant to counter Russia's jet-powered Shahed attack drones, but that operational trials and combat doctrine are still needed before deployment. Zelenskyy said on September 14 that development and live-fire testing were being accelerated with committed financing.

Ukrainian fighter jets and surface-to-air missiles currently absorb most of the intercept workload against these drones, a method analysts call disproportionately costly. Defense Minister Khmara has cited four high-potential platforms, and the Alexa Spatium reusable interceptor has been codified, but none of these systems have yet reached large-scale serial production.
