The Environmental Protection Agency is repealing rules limiting greenhouse gas emissions from coal and natural gas power plants, a reversal of Obama- and Biden-era climate policy. The agency says the move removes more than $300 billion in industry costs and will 'unleash' American energy.

EPA officials frame the change as returning decision-making to utilities, who they say can now choose what's best for ratepayers rather than being forced to retire aging or inefficient plants.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Unleash is a strong word for letting an old plant keep doing what it was already doing. Three hundred billion dollars in savings for somebody always means a cost moved somewhere else, usually downwind and unpriced. The agency didn't say who picks that bill up, and that's the part worth watching.
