The White House issued a presidential message marking Overdose and Drug Poisoning Awareness Week, crediting the administration with a Homeland Security Task Force, the HALT Fentanyl Act, designation of fentanyl as a weapon of mass destruction, cartel terrorist designations, and military strikes on narcotrafficking boats.

The message states fentanyl deaths dropped 22 percent in a single year and total overdose deaths fell 14 percent, attributing the decline to these actions. It also touts a new Great American Recovery Initiative meant to unite government, healthcare, faith groups, and private industry around prevention and treatment.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A week set aside to remember the dead is a strange place to plant a victory flag, and yet here we are, reading a memorial that somehow arrives with a receipt attached. The percentages may even be real; the causal arrow pointing straight from a press office to a morgue is doing work no one has shown. And any initiative that calls itself the Great American anything before it has done a single thing is asking to be graded on the letterhead.
