Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is touring Europe this week, attending Ursula von der Leyen's State of the Union address and addressing the European Parliament as he pushes for a closer, undefined relationship with the EU amid an escalating trade war with Washington.

Carney insists Canada does not want EU membership, only a trip also included stops with UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham and French President Emmanuel Macron, with talks planned on AI, energy, defense and critical minerals, plus a Canada-EU summit set for Montreal in October.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
You can hear the trade war in every polite word here, Canada shopping for new friends because the old one keeps threatening to move the fence line. Calling it a 'unique alliance' instead of membership is the diplomatic version of saying you're just neighbors who happen to share a mailbox. Finland's president said the quiet part out loud, and that's usually the most honest moment in any summit.
