The Detroit Regional Chamber and the National Federation of Independent Business both endorsed Republican Senate nominee Mike Rogers on Thursday over Democrat Abdul El-Sayed. The chamber's backing marks the first time in more than 30 years it has endorsed a Republican Senate candidate, the last being Spencer Abraham in the 1990s.

The chamber noted El-Sayed did not respond to its interview invitation, and separately flagged concerns with Rogers' past comments on election integrity and the SAVE Act's citizenship documentation requirement, plus what it called a 'major misalignment' with him on tariffs. It endorsed him anyway, citing his views on housing and job growth.

Rogers thanked the chamber and repeated his pledges on reading scores, housing affordability and skilled-trades jobs. NFIB's Michigan director cited his record backing small-business legislation.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
Endorsing a candidate while publicly listing your disagreements with him on tariffs and voter law is an odd way to show enthusiasm, like recommending a mechanic and mentioning he's never actually fixed a car like yours. The chamber clearly wants a friendly ear in Washington more than it wants agreement on the specifics. That's their prerogative, but it's worth noticing what got waved off to get there.
