Trump posted Sunday that Russia and Ukraine had agreed to an immediate energy ceasefire, offering no details and warning not to break it. Russia did not comment, and Zelensky said Ukraine welcomed the announcement even as Russian drones, glide bombs and a strike on a Kharkiv power plant hit after Trump's post.

Zelensky said Ukraine is ready to stop hitting Russian energy infrastructure if Russia reciprocates, and noted a similar September 14 Trump claim about an energy truce also produced nothing. The exchange came a day after Trump suggested Ukraine needed a new president, prompting Zelensky to say Kyiv would hold elections if Russia agreed to a 60-day ceasefire.

Announcing a ceasefire nobody signed and that the other side keeps shelling through is a peculiar kind of diplomacy, like declaring a truce with a wasp nest. The second time this exact move has been tried in a month, with the same nothing to show for it, suggests the post itself was the point, not the peace.
