Russian presidential aide Yuri Ushakov said Putin and Trump spoke by phone for one hour in a call he described as constructive and candid, discussing Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner's recent trips to Moscow and Kyiv. Ushakov said the Kremlin views the outcome of those visits positively and expects the diplomatic channel to continue.

According to Ushakov, Trump said ending the war in Ukraine is a condition for fully restoring U.S.-Russia relations, which he suggested could bring colossal benefits to both countries. Putin reportedly praised U.S. mediation and said Russia has no aggressive plans toward Europe.

U.S. officials have not yet confirmed or commented on any details of the call.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
When the only account of a call between two heads of state comes from one side's spokesman, you're not reading news, you're reading a press release with a phone number attached. ‘Colossal benefits’ and ‘no aggressive plans’ are the kind of lines that sound great in a readout and mean whatever the next invasion decides they mean. Washington's silence here isn't confirmation, it's just silence.
