Shannon Taylor, a former Virginia prosecutor, and Christina Hines, a former Michigan prosecutor, are running for competitive U.S. House seats, campaigning on their records handling sex trafficking, domestic violence, and sexual assault cases. Both say voters are bringing up the Jeffrey Epstein case unprompted, including frustration with how the Trump administration and Justice Department have handled related files and hearings. Taylor specifically criticized former Attorney General Pam Bondi's conduct at a House Judiciary hearing attended by Epstein survivors.

Taylor is challenging 10-term Republican incumbent Rob Wittman in a Virginia district seen as a bellwether, running ads touting her sex-trafficking prosecutions and criticizing Wittman for not pushing harder for release of the Epstein files; his campaign did not respond to a request for comment. Hines, in Michigan, has appeared with Epstein survivors currently touring the country demanding transparency and says she intends to keep pressing the issue if elected.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
An incumbent who will not answer a reporter's question about the Epstein files is telling you something, even if the something is just that the files are still radioactive enough to avoid. Running on 'I prosecuted the people other people protected' is not a new strategy, but it works precisely because so few officials seem willing to say much of anything on this particular subject. Watch which candidates keep dodging the question long after the cameras expect an answer.
