The Intercept and the Freedom of the Press Foundation sued in Manhattan federal court to shut down Truth API, a Trump Media & Technology Group service that charges up to $100,000 a month for early access to 10 high-profile Truth Social accounts, including Trump's own.
The service launched August 1, days after Senators Elizabeth Warren and Adam Schiff asked the SEC to investigate whether it lets Wall Street insiders and Trump profit off market-moving posts. Trump is Trump Media's largest shareholder, holding a 41.3 percent stake worth roughly $950 million.
Plaintiffs call the arrangement 'profoundly corrupt' and say it violates the First Amendment by letting Trump sell privileged access to statements that sometimes function as official government announcements. A Trump Media spokesperson called the suit an attempt by 'left-wing activists' to censor the president and harm shareholders.
