The EU Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria Election Observation Hub reported 323 electoral offences and 38 security incidents in Saturday's Osun governorship election, based on 823 accredited observers across all 30 local government areas. Of 2,339,233 registered voters, 81.5 percent had collected their PVCs, and materials arrived at most of the 726 observed polling units by 8 a.m., though one unit had yet to open by 11 a.m.
Vote trading accounted for 103 of the reported offences, alongside 85 cases of exposed ballots, 38 of campaigning at polling units, and smaller numbers of voter obstruction, official inducement, impersonation and multiple voting. Separately, 58 BVAS devices malfunctioned, though 41 were fixed during the day, and the Hub's fact-checkers flagged 11 false claims about INEC payments, arrests and underage voting.
Despite the tally of infractions, the Hub described turnout as impressive and voting as largely peaceful, while urging INEC to deploy backup BVAS devices and ensure results are properly displayed and uploaded. It also called on security agencies to support anti-corruption bodies in curbing vote buying and asked media outlets to avoid reporting unofficial results.
