The White House issued a proclamation declaring Sept. 17-23, 2026 as Constitution Week, marking the 239th anniversary of the document's signing by 39 delegates at Independence Hall in 1787.
Beyond the historical recap, the proclamation claims the administration has ended the ‘weaponization of Government’ and is ‘restoring truth and sanity’ to American history by purging what it calls divisive ideology from museums and schools. It also blames ‘communists and far-left radicals’ and the prior administration for turning power against citizens, without offering specifics.
The document calls on teachers and local leaders to educate students on constitutional rights and responsibilities during the week, framing the effort as part of preserving ‘the supreme law of the land.’

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A birthday card for the Constitution that spends most of its ink on who ruined the party is a strange sort of gift. If you really wanted schoolchildren thinking about the supreme law of the land, you'd hand them the thing itself and let those 39 signatures do the talking. Instead we get a list of enemies and a promise that sanity has been restored, which is the kind of claim a person tends to make loudest right when nobody asked.
