The European Union has activated a Joint Election Observation Hub for the Osun State governorship election, coordinating civil society groups including Yiaga Africa, the International Press Centre, and the Nigerian Women Trust Fund under its EU-SDGN programme. The hub will collect and verify reports from 800 accredited observers monitoring polling, accreditation, voting, counting and results collation, plus participation of women, youth and people with disabilities.
The setup includes an Election ReportPoint where voters can call or WhatsApp to report violence, intimidation or vote buying, with verified findings shared through periodic public updates. EU governance adviser Laolu Olawunmi said the initiative is locally led and aims to build a fuller picture of the election beyond just the ballot-casting moment.
