Federal judge blocks ‘Free Land Holders’ from fencing off national forest

A federal judge in Denver granted summary judgment to the United States, blocking the Free Land Holders Committee from fencing off part of the San Juan National Forest near Mancos, Colorado, land the government has owned since a 1927 purchase from Fred Hallar.

Patrick Pipkin and Bryan Hammon, representing themselves, disputed the court's jurisdiction, requested an ambassador, paid filing fees in silver, and filed documents denying they were sovereign citizens while declaring themselves ambassadors for everlasting peace, citing a 1560 Bible and an 18th-century treaty.

Chief Judge Daniel Domenico, a Trump appointee, found their arguments legally incorrect and unsupported by evidence of ownership.

Paying your filing fee in silver doesn't change who owns the woods, and the government has held the deed since 1927. You can call yourself an ambassador for everlasting peace, but a fence across public land is about the least peaceful thing a neighbor can put up. Judge Domenico said as much, only politer.
