Ashley Moody says news media need to ‘answer’ for coverage of Democratic Senate primary

Florida Sen. Ashley Moody told reporters at a Tampa GOP rally that the media's heavy coverage of Alex Vindman over Angie Nixon in the Democratic Senate primary explains why Nixon's 12-point win was so surprising. Vindman had raised $16 million to Nixon's under $1 million, ignored debate requests, and still had $6 million left on primary day — while no public pollster bothered surveying the race at all.

Moody now faces Nixon, who joined the Democratic Socialists of America in June without a national endorsement, and Moody is framing that association as proof voters didn't know who they were choosing despite the more than 705,000 who picked her.

Nixon, for her part, told MS Now she is a union member who also recently joined the Working Families Party, and that she does not fully agree with everything in the DSA platform — a distinction Moody's rally remarks did not pause to acknowledge.

Blaming journalists for under-covering a candidate is a curious complaint from a politician now racing to define that same candidate before voters can look her up themselves. If the media failure was real, the fix presumably isn't a rally speech insisting Florida 'deserved to know' — it's asking the questions Moody says nobody else did.
