Vice President JD Vance addressed the GOP's midterm convention in Dallas, calling on the party base to overlook policy disagreements and rally behind Republican candidates ahead of November. He repeatedly labeled Democrats as “crazies,” pointed to controversial statements from recent primary winners, and framed the election as a referendum on keeping “the party of common sense” in charge.

Vance wove in the July birth of his fourth child to argue for Americans' “birthright,” while accusing immigrants in the country illegally, and Democrats broadly, of stealing something owed to citizens. When the crowd chanted “48,” a nod to a possible 2028 run, Vance deflected to November business first.

He also honored Charlie Kirk, the conservative activist killed a year earlier, urging voters to follow Kirk's example rather than “throw the baby out with the bathwater” over policy disagreements. The Democratic National Committee's Kendall Witmer responded by calling Vance “Donald Trump's most loyal puppet” over the administration's economic record.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A man can talk about his newborn's birthright for a good while and never once mention the price of eggs, and that's not an accident, that's a program. The chants for '48' tell you where the room's head already is, whatever he says out loud about November first. Calling the other side crazy is cheaper than explaining your own approval numbers, and a lot easier to fit on a sign.
