Priority Open Recommendations: National Aeronautics and Space Administration

The Government Accountability Office reports that NASA has implemented none of the three priority recommendations GAO flagged in August 2025, covering program cost monitoring, cybersecurity risk management, and use of federal contracting metrics. In July 2026 GAO added a fourth priority recommendation, bringing the total to four still-open items.

GAO says addressing these would improve transparency into Artemis program costs, help NASA identify its highest-priority cyber threats through an organization-wide risk assessment it apparently still hasn't done, and potentially save millions in procurement. The report frames this as routine oversight; the underlying fact is that a year passed and the needle moved from three unaddressed recommendations to four.
