Zelenskyy appoints Sviatoslav Zaiets commander of Ukraine’s Ground Forces

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy appointed Gen. Sviatoslav Zaiets, previously commander of the 20th Army Corps, as the new head of Ukraine's Ground Forces, replacing Hennadii Shapovalov by separate decree.

Zaiets has a background in the Air Assault Forces, including a 2014 stint commanding a reconnaissance company during the Crimea occupation, where his unit withstood a month-long blockade before withdrawing to mainland Ukraine.
