Elina Svitolina opened her Beijing campaign in the second round of the WTA 1000 China Open on Oct. 3, losing the first set 1-6 to Czech player Kateřina Siniaková before rallying to win 6-4 and 6-2 over two hours and two minutes. The result extended Svitolina's head-to-head record against Siniaková to 5-0 across six meetings.

She advances to the third round to face Greece's Maria Sakkari. Fellow Ukrainians Daria Snigur and Dayana Yastremska also reached the third round this week, while Oleksandra Oliynykova, Anhelina Kalinina and Yuliia Starodubtseva were eliminated.
