A KFF poll released Tuesday found Democrats hold an edge over Republicans on voter trust for handling healthcare costs, inflation, and abortion, while Republicans lead on immigration and the two parties tie on government fraud. The poll surveyed 1,328 U.S. adults, including 1,013 voters, with a margin of error of plus or minus 3 points.
Support for a national health plan swung wildly based on phrasing: 76% backed it when told it would guarantee insurance for all, but only 24% backed it once told it could delay medical tests and treatments. A slim majority, 52%, supported eliminating private insurers outright, a number that fell to 35% once respondents were told taxes might rise.
KFF also found Democrats more motivated to vote this fall, with 63% saying they're more fired up than in past elections compared to 38% of Republicans. Top motivations cited included a desire for change, stopping President Trump, and the belief the country is in crisis, while nearly half of all respondents said the healthcare system needs major changes or a full overhaul.
