Flight attendants told HuffPost that passengers who deboard cannot go back for forgotten items, citing safety, security and tight turnaround schedules between flights. JetBlue's Valerie Fraser and another attendant, Kari Pelzer, said reboarding risks delays and creates security concerns since crews no longer know who a departed passenger interacted with.

If you realize the loss during deplaning, attendants recommend telling a flight attendant or gate agent immediately so a crew member can retrieve the item. Once you've left the airport, items go to the local port authority's lost and found, and airlines like Delta and JetBlue offer online forms, though recovery can take a while.
