Rachel Maddow, speaking on 'The Poynter Report Podcast,' argued Trump fits an 'archetype' of authoritarian leaders who, after enriching their families, try to install a relative as successor to protect those gains from seizure or prosecution. She pointed to Trump's children and son-in-law as candidates, while acknowledging she doesn't expect voters to embrace any of them willingly.
Maddow suggested such a succession, by her own theory, would effectively have to happen 'by force' rather than through an ordinary election. She named Don Jr., Ivanka, Eric, Tiffany, and Barron as possibilities, while noting JD Vance and Marco Rubio are the currently presumed 2028 GOP front-runners.

A theory about where a man's mind might be heading is still just a theory, and Maddow says as much herself. But it's worth noticing how many people, across how many networks, keep arriving at some version of the same worry independently. That doesn't make it true, but it does make it the kind of thing that keeps getting said out loud instead of laughed off.
