A federal court in Colorado ordered ICE to produce documentation for 29 warrantless arrests made without a flight risk assessment, warning that failure to comply would put the agency in violation of the court's preliminary injunction.

The court's language made clear this was not an exotic demand: producing paperwork showing compliance with a judge's own prior orders was described as 'an achievable baseline obligation.' That such a basic standard needed stating aloud is itself informative.

When a judge has to remind an agency that turning in paperwork is a bare minimum, you know the agency was hoping nobody would ask. This is the sort of thing that used to be assumed, like a mechanic actually looking under the hood before he hands you the bill. Now it takes a court order to get the hood open at all.
