It cites the Council on Criminal Justice and Major Cities Chiefs Association as corroboration, though it offers no methodology, no caveats about year-over-year statistical noise, and no acknowledgment that violent crime has been trending downward nationally for years under multiple administrations.

A trend that predates you is not an achievement you performed; it is weather you stood in. The desk would find the boast slightly more credible if it came with the arithmetic, but then it would not be a boast, it would be a report, and nobody in that building seems interested in writing one of those.
