Belgium to supply Ukraine with F-16 munitions to counter jet-powered Shaheds – Defense Ministry

Ukraine's Defense Ministry says Belgium plans to equip Ukrainian F-16s with additional weapons by the end of 2026 to counter jet-powered Shahed drones, following talks between Defense Minister Yevhenii Khmara and Belgian counterpart Theo Francken. Belgium is also continuing to help repair Ukraine's F-16 fleet and supply spare parts, and the two sides discussed drone production and 2027 assistance.

Ukrainian officials say Russia used five times as many jet-powered drones in July as in June, and that Ukraine has four potential interceptor systems in development, though Zelenskyy has described the effort as still at the prototype stage. Belgium separately continues to reject using frozen Russian assets to help fund Ukraine, a position noted alongside its weapons pledge.
