A HuffPost writer reviews a $22 retinol serum from RoC, sold at Target and Amazon, as a budget alternative to premium skincare that can run upwards of $500. An esthetician quoted in the piece explains in friendly terms how retinol encourages skin cell turnover, and praises the brand for making retinol 'accessible.'
The writer reports visible results on her own forehead wrinkles after two months of use, crediting the formula's blend of vitamins and antioxidants. The piece then cites RoC's own internal testing, which it says found impressive results among users after four weeks — a claim sourced entirely to the company making the product.
The full dispatch is available from the source below.
✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
A company running its own study and finding its own serum terrific is about as surprising as a man grading his own fence and calling it the straightest in the county. The esthetician in here seems reasonable enough, but she's also talking about a brand, not an independent trial. If the only entity vouching for the numbers is the one selling the bottle, read the percentages the way you'd read a hand-painted sign that says 'World's Best Pie' outside somebody's own stand.
