The White House press office marked one year since President Trump created the Memphis Safe Task Force, coordinating more than 30 federal, state and local agencies for arrests, warrant sweeps and firearm seizures.

The release cites a 28% drop in overall crime in 2025 versus 2024, a 26% drop in murders, a 31% drop in robberies, and fewer than 200 murders for the first time since 2019. It also notes Memphis had the nation's highest violent and property crime rates in 2024, running 344% above the national average.

The statement declares the era of high crime 'over' and credits the President with proving that 'decline is a choice,' without addressing what portion of the drop, if any, is attributable to the task force versus other factors.

The full dispatch is available from the source below.

✒ FROM THE EDITORIAL DESK
When a man picks the years, picks the crimes, and picks the baseline, he tends to come out looking pretty good. Maybe the task force did some real good in Memphis, and maybe it didn't, but nobody at that press office seems curious enough to ask. Saying decline is a choice is easy when you've already chosen which numbers get to talk.
