Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner arrived in Kyiv on September 6 for their first visit to Ukraine, meeting President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss ending the war. Zelenskyy said on Telegram that the delegation's arrival was ‘very important’ and had been long awaited, sharing footage of the meeting and a stop at St. Sophia Cathedral.

The Kyiv visit came a day after Witkoff and Kushner met Vladimir Putin in Moscow, where the Kremlin said the envoys presented ideas for ending the war. Zelenskyy noted that Ukrainian airports were ready to receive the delegation, but that Russian forces prevented the group from flying in directly.

Two men fly to Moscow one day and Kyiv the next, carrying ideas nobody outside those rooms has seen. That is not diplomacy you can grade, it is diplomacy you have to take on faith, and faith has not had a great track record in this war.
