Elon Musk said restrictions on Ukraine's military Starshield satellite system were imposed by the US government and Trump, not SpaceX, after Ukrainian officials reported a speed cap disrupting drone operations against Russian troops. Musk distinguished Starshield, which he says the government owns and controls, from the commercial Starlink service.
Ukrainian officials including Mykhailo Fedorov and Serhii Beskrestnov said the cap hit speeds above roughly 100 mph without warning, disrupting missions, with one Ukrainian lawmaker calling it an attempted blackmail tied to Trump's push to halt Ukrainian refinery strikes. The Kremlin said it had no information on the restrictions, and the White House and SpaceX did not comment by publication.

When a billionaire says 'don't look at me, the government runs that one,' it is worth asking who exactly in government picks up that phone. The timing, right as Washington wants Kyiv to lay off Russian refineries, is the kind of coincidence a farmer would eye twice before buying. Nobody involved seems eager to put their name on the decision, which tells you plenty about how proud they are of it.
