Dan Lawrence made a hard-fought half-century at Lord's on a rain-interrupted day that saw only 25 overs bowled, prompting MCC to issue a 50 per cent ticket refund.

Lawrence, once shifted awkwardly to open before being dropped, returned to his preferred middle-order slot at No 6 after Ben Stokes's retirement and an injury to Sam Curran created a vacancy.

On a damp, seam-friendly surface that troubled batters throughout, Lawrence's fifty was his second in three innings since returning to the side.
